Felt like pulling my painting supplies out this time, and making a new conbadge — the challenge was trying to work with a much smaller area (I'm still a bit shaky with a brush, but it's gotten better I think).

Two months ago, a local feline fur/fursuiter/builder by the name of Flow asked if she could borrow RK for a commission she was getting. The theme (and goal) were to match the title card for a 2006 British TV version of Robin Hood.

Not one to squander opportunities to get art of my fursona, I took her up on the offer. Just today, I saw the work was finished; it is available from the artist on furaffnity.net. I think I can say that the work is awesome. © 2011 non-lo-so and/or 3245kat (i.e. Flow)

Felt like trying to draw something as cute as I possibly could. If you check out my Twitter, you can find the sketch result — figured I'd scan and colour it.

Had some input on this one from a bunch of furs who all agreed the sketch would look awesome as a sticker, once I coloured it. So here you go.

Niner's New Bike

Niner gets ready to ride his new bike, a road-based hybrid.

Done entirely digitally, I decided to use my own body to help get the pose right, tracing the result (of course, changing from human to canine in the process). That's a large contributor to why RK looks different; the flat shading seems to fit the image rather well.

Okay, Blue Jay

A puppy (not RK this time, an anonymous yellow lab) tries to play fetch with a blue jay on a nice day. Baseball season is here.

The sleuths among you might recognize that the Blue Jays are Toronto's baseball (they play in the AL East, along with the Yankees, Red Sox, Rays and Orioles). The pic here is a play on their theme song chorus (appearing during the seventh inning stretch): "OK Blue Jays / Let's Play Ball!".

I decided to paint this one for a change... Seem to be getting the hang of it in parts, but looks like I'll need a bit more practice before I'll make it look as good as my digital works (which also get proper shadows on them).

2011 Reference Sheet

Since it's been a few years, and I've had a chance to improve my drawing style, I figured it would be good to create an updated ref sheet. I decided to render RK nude from three angles since I'm also looking into commissioning a fursuit (possibly).

It took a few evenings to finish this after creating the original sketches over the weekend. I had initially drawn the tail in for the rear view, but after consideration removed it so you could see the rear markings properly.

Changes since the 2008 sheets:

Changed how my inking practices to all-digital and reduced the lines for fur texturing
Smoothed and defined markings
Reduced fluffyness in various areas so others would be more noticeable
Made tuft fluffier
Redid the sideburns to accentuate cheeks and ears
Lowered the tail to better reflect accurate anatomy
Put more effort into a consistent look between poses
Layout improvements to reduce by one page, while including more information

RK jumps for joy as I finish another picture. Just felt like making him toonishly, heel-clickingly happy for a change. Also wanted to reduce the complexity in drawing his fur to see how it would look.

RK goes on strike, demanding tummyrubs as compensation for doggy things. Despite his low demands on the wage front, he looks kinda cute waiting for one of those bellyscritches.

I was originally going to try inking this in InkScape (i.e. using vectors), but gave up when I realized I'd have better control of the final image in my usual program. The picket sign was still done over there (and I have more of them!), and was fun to mess around with.

Hidey hole

After climbing through a portable hole, RK peels it off the wall to hide away.

This is a badge concept for FE 2011; as the theme is "wild magic", my 'sona is a toon, and toon physics is a type of magic… I figured this would be an appropriate way to fit into that theme.

Not shown is the hole for the string, as it would appear on this image as a white slot in a distracting position; the string hole is to be placed in the black of the portable hole, thus hiding it against my (usually black) shirt.

All that's left to do is print it out, cut it to shape, laminate it, and get the string…

Over the holiday season, I managed to procure a painting kit as a gift. I decided to open it up this weekend and give the stuff a try.

My first painting didn't come out so great (it's linked from my Twitter feed if you want to find it), but after trying again with a new drawing, I feel a bit better. It's not perfect, and looks sloppier than my digital works, but this one's a decent starting point.

Acrylic on paper, which started to curl once the paint began to dry near the corners. Since the last time I worked in this medium was grade school, it took a bit to get used to, and I still need to work around some problems.

A yellow toller pup wants to play; he's even offering a choice of game. You can play tug, squeakyball fetch, frisbee, or bone fetch.

After lounging around for a few days, dealing with the remnants of a cold and a chronic case of artist's block, I finally got around to making something.

Doggy on a CLRV

RK rides a CLRV (a streetcar/tram used by the TTC) the way only dogs would be tempted to try. In the background and reflecting off the window, Toronto's blurred-out skyline passes by.

And yes, I've actually tried riding like this — the TTC's streetcars are the only vehicles in their system that let you do it, by having a window you can open at head height (when seated).

A toller pup decides he'd rather try to play tennis instead of fetch with that fuzzy rubber ball. I'm not sure how well he'll play on the full-sized court he's trying to use.

Any guesses how well the puppy will do playing with catgut?

Inked digitially, so I coult spend some time working on the wood floor — it's easier to do straight lines in the GIMP than on paper.
